Hand-poured beeswax candle in vintage teacup

Visit Maple & Oak Workshop store

Each candle starts with a secondhand teacup — patterns and makers vary, so no two are identical — then gets filled with pure Ontario beeswax and a cotton wick. The wax burns clean and slow, with the faint honey scent natural beeswax is known for. Expect 8–12 hours of burn time depending on the cup's depth. These work well on a nightstand or desk where you want gentle light without synthetic fragrance. The teacup stays cool enough to handle while the candle's lit, and once the wax is gone you've got a quirky little dish for rings or paper clips. Trim the wick to ¼ inch before each burn and keep the flame away from drafts. The cup is vintage, so minor glaze crazing or base marks are normal.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the candle burn?
Expect 8–12 hours of burn time, depending on the depth of the teacup. Trim the wick to ¼ inch before each use to help it burn evenly.
Can I choose the teacup pattern?
No — each candle uses a secondhand vintage cup, so patterns and makers vary. Part of the appeal is that no two are exactly alike.
Does it have a scent?
Pure beeswax has a subtle, natural honey scent — much gentler than scented candles. If you're sensitive to fragrance, this is a good option.
Is the teacup reusable after the candle burns down?
Yes. Once the wax is gone, you can wipe out the cup and use it for small items like jewelry, pins, or paper clips.
What if the vintage cup has minor flaws?
Minor glaze crazing, base marks, or small imperfections are normal for secondhand china and don't affect the candle's performance.
